Bill Barker, President of the Nature Coast Marine Group gave at talk today on the Batemans Bay Marine Park today at the Meringo Diary Shed. Twenty eight people attended and were shown underwater videos made by Bill of the the Sanctuary zone area off Bingie as well as photos of the amazing creatures such as the leafy sea dragon, nudibranch, corals, grey nurse sharks, and turtles. There were also photos of the urchin colonies that are destroying the kelp and algae species. The blue grouper, snapper and big lobsters feed on the urchin but since these big fish and lobsters have been fished out, the urchin has spread widely, even to Tasmania. Wine and cheese was served afterwards and most people stayed to chat.
