1 December 2018 Report and Final Water Reading
93mm of rain, 41 in the last week Stinky Creek has water again and this has flowed into the lagoon, diluting the salinity EC, TDS and pH similar in most cases to last month. Cudbagga Creek less salty presumably due to some runoff this week O2% all healthy P detected in all samples, all at healthy levels As with previous observations, rainfall improves the water quality 4 November 2018 Report
The 80 mm of rain earlier in the month was sufficient to 'refresh' the systems to reasonable water quality standard Stinky Creek dry. Mullum Lagoon very shallow & substantial amount of algae and faintly smelly Kellys Lake and Creek both slightly lower and creek sampling point has same water quality as lake Coila Lake and Cudbagga Creek levels similar to last month EC, TDS and pH similar in most cases to last month O2% all healthy except for Kelly Creek where it is depleted P detected in all but one sample. Mostly healthy, borderline fair in Cudbagga Creek and fair in Coila Lake 7 October 2018 Report
22mm of rain, 8mm in the last week Stinky Creek dry. Mullum Lagoon very shallow & substantial amount of algae (more than last month) Kellys Lake and Creek both slightly lower and creek sampling point has same water quality as lake Coila Lake and Cudbagga Creek levels lower. Creek stagnant and putrid smell EC, TDS and pH similar in most cases to last month O2% all saturated (estimated 109-119%) and therefore on the verge of being unhealthy, heading to stagnant. Mullum Lag and Cudbagga Creek visibly so but others all look 'healthy' still P detected in all samples. Only 'fair' quality everywhere In summary, as the drought continues the landscape is drying up and water quality is continuing to deteriorate. 2 September 2018 Report
Water levels all lower as drought intensifies (Stinky Creek now a puddle). Water generally is still approaching stagnant everywhere. 5 August 2018 Report
In summary, although all water samples clear everywhere (i.e. looks good) chemistry indicates everywhere water becoming stagnant. 10mm of rain, 1mm in the last week. Stinky Creek & Mullum Lagoon levels both lower. Kellys Lake and Creek both slightly higher due to high bar and creek sampling point has same water quality as lake. Coila Lake level lower and Cudbagga Creek sampling site now fresh with very slight flow over rock bar. EC, TDS and pH similar in most cases to last month except Cudbagga Creek which is now salty rather than fresh and Mullum Lagoon now salty. Mullum Lagoon much saltier this month & Kellys Lake & Creek still relatively fresh, Coila Lake saline but creek fresh again (low EC & TDS). Dissolved O2 values all over-range and O2% all saturated (estimated 104-111%) and therefore on the verge of being unhealthy, heading to stagnant. P very low in Mullum Lagoon and Kellys Lake/Creek combined. High end of fair quality in Stinky Creek and Coila Lake and very high in Cudbugga Creek where lots of cattle dung on flats adjacent to creek. Overall O2 and P shows deteriorating water quality due to continued dry conditions. Our previous observations are that rainfall is the key determinant of water quality in this area, along with whether or not stock dung is entering the creeks and lakes 1 July 2018 Report
Despite 56mm of rain in the week water levels not much higher except Coila Lake, which has backed up over the Cudbagga Creek sampling site, making the water there saline. Most parameters similar to last month and healthy, except for high P at Coila Lake sampling site – stock poo washed in from upstream? 3 June 2018 Report
Stinky Creek dry – first time for several years and not surprising given how dry it has been. Everything else similar to last month – O2 levels healthy but most P in the ‘fair quality’ range. |

29 April 2018 Report
2 mm of rain since last time All lakes the same level or lower than last time Dissolved O2 % a little lower than last month but still healthy everywhere P very high in Cudbugga Creek - stock poo probably. P also high in Coila Lake and Mullm Lagoon. All other values all fall within healthy range |

1 April 2018 Report
46 mm of rain since last time and 5 mm in the last week Kellys and Coila Lakes remain high Coila Lake remains backed up over Cudbagga Creek sampling point. Cudbugga Creek EC strongly brackish - diluted by runoff Mullumburra lagoon now brackish and bar closed Kelly Lake EC and TDS remains low, i.e. brackish pH, TDS & EC variable but mainly similar to last month Dissolved O2 high at all locations No P except in Cudbugga Creek which is high at 0.18 and some in Coila Lake. Nutrients washed in. |
