BRA is organising a sea spurge weeding expedition starting 8.30am on Sunday 11 March. The area is from in front of the treatment works south to about where the isthmus between the lake and sea narrows.
Meet at the treatment works (end of Kellys Lane which runs off Bingie Road about 800 meters back from the beach). We will then four-wheel drive in on the sand track to a handy spot and do a circuit from there. Philip Hughes is providing a 4WD with 4 seats but we need one more. Please let me know if you can oblige. About 6 to 8 people should handle the work easily, and we aim to be finished by 10.30 am. We recommend you bring some drinking water, wear sensible footwear for dune walking, a hat. Gloves are suggested as sea spurge can be quite sappy. You can bring a collecting bag or some will be supplied. We only need to collect sea spurge that is in flower. If the plant is not in flower you can pull it and drop it in place. It has a long tap root but, as it is in sand, it's pretty easy to pull. You will be asked to sign a sign-on sheet to comply with our insurance requirements. The area is all outside National Park so we are using BRA's own insurance. See you there! There's a picture of the target weed below
